Technologies and Tools
INSTRUMENTS
Every single task in the wide range of documentation problems needs its own proper tool to implement. Why not doing all the documenting with Microsoft Word?
Why choosing one or other tool for different tasks? A truly high-proficient technical writer should know every authoring instrument's advantage and disadvantage for particular tasks and be able to pick up the most proper tool.
The choice of an authoring instrument might depend on the publishing format of the end document, the number of writers in the project, the way the communication in the documenting process is implemented, the use of document customization for different customers, and so on.
We tried every authoring instrument in the market and our decisions are based on solid experience. We focus on the purpose of your documenting and select the most suitable tool for it.
PhiloSoft's expert authors help our customers to decide for MS Word or Adobe FrameMaker for single-publishing documents or select a suitable CMS system for multi-publishing and content management.
We widely recommend our customers to pay attention to the single source technology and its advantages. Though content creating in this case might seem time and resource-consuming, it pays off due to multi-publishing and reuse capabilities of single source systems.
As for single source technology, we use both DocBook XML and DITA Open Toolkit according to the customer's needs and preferences. We provide full cycle support for single source knowledge system, starting from content creation and up to providing the scripts for exactly those types of publishing which are needed by the customer.
For translation, we are familiar with every instrument used for the original authoring and accept exactly the format your documentation is in, being it Microsoft Word, Adobe FrameMaker, XML, or HTML. The use of Translation Memory systems ensures the exact use and consistency of the product terminology.
Being experienced with any combination of the authoring tools, we are able to provide easy migration from one platform to another or use the original format to create an up-to-date knowledge base organized as a multi-user hypertext web portal.
